James Cook: Graduated from DfIM in 2006
"Following my research paper, I won second place in NESTA Futurelab's Innovate to Educate Award, and was awarded a six month secondment with Cambridge Assessment for the latter half of this year (2007). I’m currently studying an interactive media postgraduate in Cardiff Bay with Cyfle, and will be doing a 3month placement in industry between April and June. Next year, after Cambridge, who knows? I'm interested in the social web and online media based on top of the internet, particularly in promoting education and empowerment to its users." James Cook
James is with us for a few weeks and today he gave a talk on help we can get after graduating and what support networks are out there. James talked about what he has been doing since graduating last year. One of James' current projects at D10 is to set up some form of social networking event. Every major city that is involved in new media has skill swapping informal events. This doesn't happen in Cardiff . Even though there is alot going on in the industry in South Wales, no-body talks to each other which is not very helpful.
Not every one has good interpersonal skills for example a 3d designer could be extremely talented but not get any work because he doesn't know how to approach companies or how to promote his work. A networking event with a structurted exercise could a assist the designer in getting work.
It is our mission to research the social networking events going on in other cities and make suggestions for an event in Cardiff. Where the event should be held, what type of event and who should attend.
